Which One.............................

For a long time now I have known I need to lighten my load a bit more. I own the Berghaus C71 and have taken this on winter wild camps.  It is massive, heavy very strong and for me does the job brilliantly when it comes to carrying the BIG load on a one night trip.

In June my good lady got me the the Osprey Exos 46 which I used the last two trips, this is a great back pack. It is really light and still carries a fair bit of gear. The only criticism I have of the bag is that you cannot ‘stuff’ your gear in, doing this will cause a support bar to pop out and weaken the pack. The pack will not take a bulk load. Hence the reason for deciding the next shelter.

Trip Report - Pennine Way - Edal to Hebden Bridge

I have always wanted to walk the Pennine Way and before I have never had enough time do it. After a bit of research I have trawled through maps and books and found Daniel Staniforth's guide on YouTube - Pennine Way. I only had three days to walk in and what I didn't know was where to end my chunk of the full 270 miles. After studying maps I planned to see if I could get to Hebden Bridge.

I planned three nights food and took my shelter and caught the train to Edale for 3p.m. on Monday 3rd October 2011. It was a beautiful afternoon and so began the steady approach to Jacobs Ladder.

Peak District Trip June 2011

I had 4 days off work and planned a visit to the Peak District. I was going to start the Pennine Way, unfortunately my son had a minor accident and had to delay it by a day. I set out on Tuesday 21st June and got the train into Edale. I arrived at 6p.m. and being the longest day of the year had plenty of time to walk until sunset. From Edale I started the usual Pennine Way route. I got as far as Kinder Downfall. Set up camp and cooked dinner of Tuna with mash mmmmmmmmmm!!!

Two Superb Days in the Lakes

I was fortunate enough to have a few days break from work and I planned a trip to the Lakes. Each day for about a week before I looked at the  weather forecast and I could not beleive that there was no rain forcasted at all for Cumbria. I packed my rucksac and headed off up the A1.

I arrived at Seathwaite for midday and found a great parking spot very near to the farm. I took the route to Stockley Bridge. The weather was cool and the sky was slightly overcast. I then walked straight up towards Styhead Tarn. There were a few people about. I had no specific plan where I was going to stay the night as it was all based on the weather.

First Posting

Hello All. After many days and nights gazing and looking at other blogs I have decided to give it a go myself. I am a keen wild camper and love the outdoors. I will post routes and photos of places that I have backpacked around the UK. This has mainly been the Lake District and the Peak Disrict for now. I will also post useful hints that I have found along the way.

Hope you enjoy.
